- about the team -
Tyler Williams (@gangulator)Propagator of CeebsFor me, WSC was more than a competition. It was my home. I couldn't even begin to talk about everything I love about the program, from it's cuddly mascot, to its unending in-jokes, to meeting new people and making lifelong friends. I have absolutely loved my time within the program and hope to give other scholars the same experience that I had.

Alex Mennie (@alexhasanawesomeusername)#1 Tyler Williams FanI don’t take many things seriously, but WSC is a serious exception. The community and program have brought me so much happiness over every round I have attended. I want to give that same happiness to the next generation of scholars, so they learn to take WSC seriously, but have fun whilst doing so

Kai Schlegl (@kai.schlegl)king of wholesomeI’m Kai, and I’ve been doing WSC for 4 years. It’s been one of the things I’ve lived for these last years and I’ve had the opportunity to experience so much of this competition and it’s really changed my life. Every one of the six rounds I’ve been able to attend has been life changing and I’m hoping to make sure that future scholars can have as amazing a time in the program as I’ve been blessed with.

Edwin Cheah (@edwin_cheah10)NerdWSC was a phenomenal experience. In my first and only year of participation, I had left with lifelong friends, useful knowledge and shiny things (as well as taking home 2 of my beloved alpacas). I have truly loved this experience, and hope to make it better by contributing to this website, so I can share this amazing learning experience to others with these notes.

Simho Lee (@limho_see)Headmaster of the SOAcademyRunning headfirst into WSC in 2019, I somehow ended up in SoA. For the past year, this competition has been a sprint for me, from going into regionals without even knowing the curriculum to placing top 100 in ToC in my first year. I'm grateful for this community for this experience and now I'm ready to give back to it.

Thitilapa (Ivy) Sae-Heng (@i_ivyjxeu)
Alpaca CollectorI started my World Scholar's Cup journey in 2018 as a 6th grader, and I have been doing it every year ever since. Despite leaving my first ever regional round with one medal, the program was way more interesting than I have ever thought. To me, the World Scholar's Cup is a place where you can meet lifelong friends from all over the world and learn about things you might never learn in school. I hope that I can give back to the community by helping new scholars enjoy and succeed in the program!
Nguyễn Thị Thảo Nguyên (@luvutilthesundies)The Music LaggerTo me, WSC is an opportunity for me to study more about the world around me as in Vietnam, our curriculum is not updated and there is not much information about global issues and stuff like that. WSC has given me a chance to explore more than what my compulsory education can give. I am really thankful for this experience.
Jana Ang (@caesarfeels)(it's JAH-NAH not YAH-NAH)When I first entered World Scholars Cup back in 2018, I never thought that it would be more than just your average competition. All the friends I made along the way, both near and far, are my all-time highlights. However, the surprisingly refreshing academic events, the (slightly confusing, let's be real here) jokes, and the amazing environment only amplified my experience better. WSC gave me so much, and I'm more than willing to give it back to my fellow scholars.
Phoebe San Pablo (@phoebesanpablo)The Introvert™I’m Phoebe, a rookie scholar who loves the scholars' challenge and scholars' bowl despite the agonizing pressure and hair-pulling stress that come with it. I began my WSC journey in 2019 and, needless to say, it was love at first sight for me. I remember entering the program anxious and (a little) confused but coming home with a fluffy alpaca, a trophy with a pineapple on top, a newfound appreciation for chairs, and a desire to give back to the wonderful international community that I was immersed in. Indeed, WSC was one of the best academic programs I’ve ever been to and I can’t wait to join again.
Shiv Quinn (@shivvy_quinn)basically Glinda Hey, I’m Siobhan but everyone calls me shiv! I am pretty much the most bubbly, positive person you will ever meet. I love the WSC community so much because i’ve made so many friends through it. I’ve been to the Beijing global round and I love to debate. I’m an actress and musician (big theatre kid energy) . I hope to one day live in NYC with my best-friends.

Ashish Jayamohan (@ashishjayamohan)Currently Very LostFrom the first time I interacted with World Scholar's Cup participants, I felt instantly at home. From the passion for learning each student demonstrated to the beauty of the novel vernacular (not to mention the great alpaca), I found myself completely immersed in a group of people who I had felt like I had known for so long. Though I haven't been in this community for as long as others, I look forward to helping others in their journey with the World Scholar's Cup.
Alex Rashed (@gone.fischen)Hoarder of Weird ThingsHi! I spent 3 whole entire years in WSC, and it helped me embrace the weird side of myself. I’ve made lifelong friends through this program, and I can’t wait to give back to them and other scholars through Scholars of Australia :)
Lea Pavic (@pavklea)CEO of LaughterI'm a fifteen year old passionate scholar who's here to make YOUR world scholars experience a little more interesting- and to be your friend, duh.
Tanish Tanjil (@tanishtanjil)The Silver LiningBuckets of memories, bundles of joy, tons of witty friends & a couple of cute alpacas are some of the things that i brought back home from wsc. Not to forget to mention my gallery over-flowing with pictures & mind reminiscing the crazy jokes. Expanding the community and giving back other scholars what wsc has given me will be my pleasure ~
Aceline Mavazhe (@acelinemavos)Serotonin Hoarder I started my WSC only planning to get an alpaca and never compete again but little did I know that I would still be pwaa-ing today ,WSC is probably my yearly dose of serotonin.I think the best part of WSC is making friends; it has made me a more culturally aware person and has allowed me to explore my talents and interests.
Jennalynn Lam (@fry.that.zero)Phantom of the Starbucks"WSC is just another debate competition.", I once thought. Little did I know that this program may soon be a major life-changer that gave me an array of alpaca plushies, global friendships, but most importantly, a passion for learning. Now, I'd like to share with the community this wonderful journey that I had. Spread the pwaa!
Dorothy Hou (@dot.tto)Dot the DinoI really like the llamas. It was as they say, "love at first sight". Last year was the first time I was blessed with llama's - before that I'd only seen them on ABC3 (don't correct me). WSC has led me to make so many friends and taught me an envious amount of knowledge that doesn't come in handy unless I want to flex random facts. However, a life lesson WSC has taught me is the importance of saving enough money to purchase a rainbow llama.
Inaya Hussain (@hussaininaya1)Cycling to ParathalandI've only attended the regionals but it was the best experience of my life. The most important thing in the World Scholar's Cup is not winning but the experience. WSC is so much more than just a competition, it's your second home. The staff is absolutely amazing and you're truly missing out on a lifetime experience by not joining this program.
Charlene Hui (@11flyingpenguins)The One from 'MuricaWSC is more than a competition and alpacas. It has united many people across many nations, but it also helped me get close to two of my best friends now. Although I have just started my journey, I want to help scholars that may be new as well.
Ming Xuan Zhang (@sansevieriacleopatra)Professional Couch Potato since 2006Rarely can you find someone who's madly obsessed with understuffed alpacas and overstuffed curriculums, but World Scholar's Cup is the place where I can find those that share my love. As a scholar from a small, sport-oriented school from the faraway land of Almaty, Kazakhstan, WSC is a wonderful opportunity for me to share my interest. I aspire to share my passion with fellow scholars and find hot dates for my many alpacas <3
Hao "Vietcong" Nguyen (@vietcong_1)Mister GasmaskThe only personality that I have are those of my gas mask and my love for the communistic values of society.
Annika Heber (@annika_heber)Resident Lover of Dad JokesHey scholars! I’ve done WSC for four years now, and it still feels like I’m stepping into a surreal but wonderful new world every time I enter a round; whether it’s the regionals in my home city or the exalted halls of Yale University. This competition has become my passion, and our community of scholars has become my home. I can’t wait to make more lasting memories with amazing people in the future!
Sochhen Chan (@_sochhen_)Retired ClownWSC has changed my life and shaped me so much as a person till these days. I used to be a shy and socially awkward person but ever since I found out about WSC, I made tons of friends learn so much stuff and found my passion in debating. WSC helped me discovers the inner self of me that I never knew I had and most importantly I came out of my comfort zone which impacted my life so much. I hope to give scholars as much experience to help them learn and enjoy this program together as one community.
Claire Wu (@its.clairey.boi)The Fastest TurtleHey guys! I'm Claire, and one of the youngest members of the SOA. One thing that I want you to know is that World Scholar's Cup isn't just an academic competition. For many people, it's another home. A home where you can meet people from all over the world (as well as food)! And with certainty, you wouldn't leave a global round with no friends. It has been my pleasure to support scholars while continuing my own WSC journey, and I am honored to be a part of SOA. But remember that you're not alone in being socially awkward! ;)
